Elizabeth Gilbert Bio

  • Wind Drift, The wind whistled and thundered around the house unprotected from the furry from the great lake. Beneath the chestnut trees it carved the drift in it’s image. This full sheet painting is one of the most challenging and excited paintings I’ve ever done. I used all my learning to achieve it, and learned so much more when I achieved it.
  • Lake Louise,
  • Lost Peoples, 4″x 6″, en plein air, sketch of the Statue in Punta Arenas, Chile I was drawn to the poignant face of the indigenous man on Magellan’s statue. Some of these peoples were annihilated when Europeans came to Patagonia, either by conflict or disease.
  • Edge Encounter, Mountain goats encountered on a precipitous trail in Montana. The nannies and kids owned the shadowed shelves immediately above the trail.
  • Creek by Our Winter Camp We set off in the deep snow and deep cold for winter camping. It was a marvellous experience with many treasured experiences. This creek was near our campsite. I painted sketches using 1/2 vodka in my water because it was about -8ºC.

 Elizabeth has been an elected member of the CSPWC since 1997. She stepped forward as President of the CSPWC in May of 2025. Elizabeth is thrilled with the many challenges of being CSPWC President, and will value this experience alongside other life accomplishments. Elizabeth has often shown her work in CSPWC Open Water, member exhibitions and other exhibitions. She has had several solo shows and won numerous awards. Elizabeth is truly honoured to have her painting “Waters Colours – Elements Dance in Time” in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle. 

Her first passion was in Medical Illustration, having studied at University of Toronto – Faculty of Medicine. Elizabeth also studied fine art and art history at University of Guelph and Communication & Design at OCAD. Later she studied Environmental Sciences at UoT, Scarborough. 

In the early years Elizabeth freelanced in scientific illustration and taught Advanced Drawing, and Scientific Illustration at Camosun College in Victoria. She later went on to get her teaching degree from York University. Elizabeth taught full time with YRDSB, primarily in the Intermediate division with both Science and Art as her specialties until she retired. 

Elizabeth is a passionate outdoors person with the view that everything is science and it’s all amazing. She kayaks, x-country skis, treks and backpacks painting watercolours everywhere she goes. Elizabeth has travelled extensively in New Zealand, Australia, Patagonia, Europe, India, Canada and USA. 

Elizabeth and Alan Rosselet have two amazing sons; James and Andrew, daughter in law Rosh, and one granddaughter Ava.

Elizabeth’s work expresses her comittment and passion for the natural world. Though her studio work is realistic, her brush plays with abstraction close up. Elizabeth is adept at painting form & dimension. She enjoys impossible challenges and painting a wide variety of subjects. Elizabeth is studying the illusive and fleeting play of colours in water with reflections, refractions, transparency and translucence.
